Online since '99

Thanks for taking an interest in my website! For many years now I have posted alot of information regarding  my hobbies online in the hope that people would find it entertaining or educational. I have aided many in the last few years who have shared in these hobbies. Dont forget you can email me - the link is at the bottom of every page.

Latest speedtest performed on my home cable broadband (WOW! Internet and Cable's Ultra HSD):

Results from Speakeasy.net speedtest, 7/31/06

Some facts about my website:

  • Running off my home computer via cable broadband (see latest speed tests above).

  • Webserver is an old 366MHz Celeron, 512MB RAM, 20GB HDD, originally built from scratch in '99 and still working great!.

  • Webserver runs Linux CentOS 3 (completely free software).

  • Using a free Linksys Router

  • Website will be down if my power goes out, so far that is only minutes per month downtime or less.

  • I do have two backup sites, indicated on the very bottom banner on every page here (although tripod is way out of date, and someplaceinohio is sometimes out of date too).

  • Website originally was for my high voltage hobby but has since grown to include about all my hobbies in recent years.

  • I keep my website SIMPLE! Just text, links, pictures, and very few advanced features. I believe this allows visitors to 'cut to the chase' to find information, and keeps load time at a minimum (easier for PDA's and smartphones to view too!). Although I havent tested every page here, so far they have all viewed well on my t-mobile SDA smartphone using Pocket Internet Explorer.

  • My site contains projects which are very dangerous and many can be deadly. Do not attempt to do anything dangerous from my website unless you know what you are doing, use my information at your own risk!

My website really came alive starting in 2001 when I purchased my first digital camera, an Olympus D-460 Zoom 1.3 Mega-pixel (I paid $500 for it yeeks!!!). Even today I say it takes great quality pictures suitable for prints up to 4x6. My most recent camera, a Canon Powershot S1 IS is a great camera, and now allows me to shoot great looking digital video which is slowly finding its way to my website. Some pics on my website are scanned film pictures also.

This is the digicam I have taken most of my newer pics with (since '05) also all digital video clips were taken with it.

And here is the 1.3MP digicam I first got in 2001, and most of my older pictures prior to '05 were taken with it.

Both of these cameras I have been extremely happy with. I know the SLR's are the ultimate, but quality+features/$ my Canon beat any SLR available at the time hands down IMHO. By this I mean pics shrunk to standard size like 1280*1024 or less are almost indistinguishable with a digital rebel (and prints up to 4x6), full 10X optical zoom standard (5.8-58mm), very handy rotating display, excellent quality full VGA digital video at 30fps, plus all your advanced features like full manual control, manual focus, shutter speeds up to 15sec long, modes like panoramic, etc. And for about 1/3 the price of a SLR at the time.
