Night Photography with
my Canon Powershot Digital Camera
[Go back to main photo galleries page]
Photographing things at night has always
interested me. And that is one of the things digital cameras have always been
lacking in quality. So far I haven't been able to capture perfect night shots
but I am still perfecting and learning how to do this with my digi-cam. Note: if
your monitor is dim these pictures might be difficult to view on you screen. But
with a simple point and shoot 3.2MP, some of these didn't turn out too bad. Take
a look:
 |
Probably the best pic of the moon I
have so far, the left is uneditied, the right is auto level balanced. |
 |
I guess this is what they call a
'harvest moon'. The moon was very orange, but this photo brings out the
orange a little more than the naked eye since the shutter speed was higher
than the auto setting. |
 |
A couple more pics of the moon. |
 |
Here is an over-exposed picture of
the moon. |
 |
Believe it or not this picture is
taken around dawn, with barely enough light to see to walk across the
field (view from my tree stand during hunting season). It was a few
seconds long exposure and came out a little blurry because the tree was
swaying in the wind a little. Note the house light in the distance, if
this were a daytime picture the house light probably would not have even
been visible. |
 |
The night sky. Stars alone were
difficult to picture, but this shot was able to capture a starry scene. |
 |
Here is a few second long exposure
driving down the road. I passed under a blinking yellow light. |
 |
I tried to photograph all the fireflies
that were out in the field camping one summer night. The picture doesn't
show nearly the amount of fireflies, but some did show up in the picture. |
 |
Take a guess at what this pic is.
If you guessed the moon you would be incorrect. Its actually the sun just
taken with a very high shutter speed (this one was taken years ago on a
35mm film canon rebel). |
